Results Weight Loss Managing Director Joe Hanney (International Personal Trainer of the Year 2008 & finalist 2007) is best known for his ability to design fat loss programmes. It is what he writes about and gives expert advice on most. Joe’s creation of Results Weight Loss is the result of lots of research, experience and observations, which has been developed into this unique and highly successful weight loss system. Joe is a regular contributor and fitness expert to the media and also advises at obesity and weight management clinics. Recent media appearances include ITV Central News, Leicester Mercury, Soar Magazine, 69 Magazine, Leicester Sound and BBC Radio Leicester. Rendall Munroe is an English super bantamweight boxer. He currently resides in Leicester and is the current holder of the EBU super bantamweight title as well as being the current Commonwealth Super Bantamweight title. His day job as a bin man is well publicised as his nickname is 'The Bin man'. He and his corner men also come out wearing fluorescent yellow bin man jackets. Munroe's first title win came when he beat Marc Callaghan for the vacant English super bantamweight title. Asked about his support for The Lyric Lounge; Rendall stated “being Leicester born and bred I know that the entire city is totally behind the Special Olympics and therefore being asked to become an ambassador of The Lyric Lounge was a honour”.

Poetry in Motion: The Art of Sport
An exhibition of artwork, by members of The Leicester Society of Artists (LSA).
Take in this top class exhibition of specially selected work and write prize winning poetry about your favourite pieces. Poems will be displayed alongside their objects of inspiration and the writer of the ‘best’ poem will be invited to read their work alongside John Hegley, on the final day of The Lyric Lounge. Watch out for a special Poetry in Motion poetry writing workshop, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Poet and editor Wayne Burrows introduces a reading from The Protein Songs, a sequence of poems commissioned by Retina Dance Company for adaptation into choreography in their 2006 performance Eleven Stories For The Body, Distance To Our Soul, followed by film footage of the dance created from the words.
After coffee, there will be an opportunity to hear about Staple magazine, and all are invited to ask such awkward questions as what editors look for, how work gets chosen, and why running a small press so often resembles a kind of controlled chaos.

Leicester’s longest running poetry and spoken word night, in residence at The Lyric Lounge.
WORD! is Leicester’s longest running poetry and spoken word night. It consists of an open mic and a booked act. As this one off Lyric Lounge Sunday special, it will feature Lucy English as booked act. Lucy used to be the hippy chick love mother sex goddess until she got too old. She now likes gardening and watching Delia Smith on I-player. Her favourite man is Monty Don and although she camped for a week outside his house he never spoke to her. Poets and lyricists wishing to perform on the open mic, should arrive at 7.30pm and register with the compère, Lydia Towsey. The night kicks off at 8pm. There will be a raffle!

In November 2008, 7 young men of diverse cultural origin celebrated their talent in all that was spoken. Revisiting The Y in what promises to be another moving performance, these young men will be joined by 4 more, in exploring experiences of life, love, nature and nurture. Accompanied by music and visuals and incorporating spoken word, hip-hop, poetry, rap and monologue, Showcase Live aims to spark debate around mental health issues. Write poetry about paintings with poet extraordinaire and Write Way Up director, Kevin Fegan. John Hegley headlines and will act as compère during this eclectic evening. Delve deep into the world of one of the UK’s most prolific storytellers. Radio regular, published writer, and popular glasses wearer, John Hegley has made his mark everywhere. From sell out shows at Edinburgh Festival to comedy festivals worldwide, his poems about dogs, glasses and a whole lot more, have really gone the distance. John has been busy passing on his trade secrets to his supporting acts, talented local older men. Also featuring the winning poet from The Lyric Lounge Olympic art competition. All profits from the evening will be donated to local disability organisations. John’s performance will be followed by an onstage question and answer session.

Tim Clarke: Lyric Lounge Artist in Residence
Timothy Clarke is a Leicester based draughtsman and painter. He has had solo shows in London and regionally and was the recent winner of the `LUTS Award' to draw dancers with special needs in Derby. Timothy will be drawing performers and visitors to The Lounge throughout the week - and also holding `Drawing Drop-ins'. Check the programme for deatails.

Join Artist in Residence, Timothy Clarke, for a 'Drawing Drop-in'. In this session you will explore movement, form, faces and figures, with expert guidance and good company. All ages welcome. All materials provided. No experience necessary. We'll display your work and help unlock your full potential.

The TrueVan
As part of The Lyric Lounge we will be hosting 'TruVan' - a veritable tardis on wheels, containing: video booth, internet access and enough camcorders to start a revolution. You can visit the van in the grounds of Leicester's New Walk Museum, throughout The Lyric Lounge week - get filmed, watch films and take part in a range of other ways...But also...
We're looking for 12 young people (16-25) to work with TruVan filmakers and attend a series of 5, 3 hrs film making sessions.
Sessions are FREE. They will take place everyday, Monday 27th July - Friday 31st, 2-5pm at The Y Theatre. Participants will develop two films about The Lounge - to be shown in a glamorous London Film Fest, come November - aswell as on this website - and TruVan's.

TruVan is a project of TruTube: an organisation with a global profile. TrueTube generates approximately one million website hits per month and currently hosts over 700 short films. Their celebrity profile of supporters include: Ken Loach, Goldie, John Bird and cast memebers from both Skins and Hollyoaks, to name just a few.

The Lyric Lounge (Phase 1) is managed by 2Funky Arts, with creative programming from WORD! and guidance from a steering committee (led by Writing East Midlands and featuring Apples and Snakes and Mainstream Partnership). It is part of MLA and Renaissance East Midlands’ contribution to the region-wide ‘Igniting Ambition’ programme and is being undertaken in partnership with Arts Council East Midlands. Additional funding is being sourced from Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, Leicester Libraries, Leicester City Council and Connexions Leicester Shire.
